Sailors Evacuated After Ship Fire

Greek emergency services evacuated 24 Sailors today from a Singapore-registered cargo ship off the Greek coast after a fire broke out on board, the merchant marine ministry said. The 24 crew members - 19 Filipinos, four Burmese and one Malaysia - were safely evacuated by helicopter from The Aniara which was seven nautical miles from the island of Felves, south of Athens, according to the minister's statement.
The fire in the engine room has been extinguished and the vessel is being towed to the nearby port of Agios Nicolaos.
