Stricken Ship Rescued

A container ship broke down due to engine failure en-route to the Tyne from Scotland. The Northsea Trader was forced to call on the Port of Tyne for help when its engines failed on its approach to the mouth of the Tyne yesterday morning at about 10am. The ship had sailed from Grangemouth, in Stirlingshire.

The Englishman tug assisted by tug Svitzer Maltby towed the vessel into the Tyne where it unloaded its cargo and was later moved to a layby berth for work on its engine. A Port of Tyne spokeswoman said there was no chance of pollution from the incident.
