Fishing Boat Collides With Patrol Vessel

A 37.75-ton fishing boat carrying five crew members collided with a 960-ton Japan Coast Guard patrol vessel off Etomo port after the boat's watchman fell asleep, sources said. No injuries or oil spills were reported.

The bow of the Kosho Maru No. 17 was damaged after it struck the starboard side of the patrol vessel Wakasa, operated by the Maizuru Coast Guard Office. The vessel, with 30 crew members, was anchored about 700 meters from the shore. According to the Sakai Coast Guard Office, Wakasa crew noticed the Kosho Maru just 5 minutes before the collision.
