1 Killed, 9 Missing In Fire Aboard Ship At Russian Baltic Dockyard

A fire that occurred aboard a commercial ship at a repair dockyard of the Russian Navy located in the town of Baltiysk in Russia’s Baltic exclave region of Kaliningrad, has claimed one human life, sources at the press service of the regional branch of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry told reporters. The fire has been put out. Three people were injured and nine are missing. The fire began after an explosion on board the ship. According to unofficial data, the blast and the fire came as a result of welding works in one of the ship’s compartments. Kaliningrad region Governor Georgy Boos visited the site. The search for the missing continues.
Yenisei
The container carrier Yenisei belonging to the St Petersburg-based Enex company has the water displacement of 1,659 tons and the size of 82 meters by 11.6 meters. A total of eight teams of firefighters and rescuers reporting to the Emergency Situations Ministry and six teams of firefighters reporting to the Baltic Fleet were engaged in the effort to extinguish the blaze, which covered an area of about 500 square meters.
