Cargo Ship Slams Into Taiwanese Fishing Boat, 7 Chinese Sailors Missing

A cargo ship slammed into a fishing boat off northern Taiwan on Saturday, leaving 7 Chinese sailors missing, an official said.Another 62 Chinese seamen were rescued after the Pacific 168 fishing boat sank about 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) off Keelung port, said Coast Guard administration official Huang Han-sung. Survivors told Formosan TV the boat was taking them back to their home in Quanzhou in China's southern Fujian province when an unidentified ship slammed into it.

Huang said authorities were trying to track down the Singapore-registered Kuo Fu cargo ship. "We suspect the ship had caused the accident but have yet to confirm it," Huang said.
