Sailor Rescued From Raft After Boat Sinks

U.S. Coast Guard officials rescued a man late Thursday night after his sailboat began taking on water off the Ventura coast, authorities said. A rescue boat dispatched from Coast Guard Station Channel Islands and a helicopter from Coast Guard Station Los Angeles found the sailor in his 9-foot inflatable raft in waters nine miles west of Ventura, the Coast Guard reported in a prepared statement.A vessel-assist boat also responded to the distress call.The vessel-assist boat rescued the sailor, who was not injured, and transferred him to the Coast Guard rescue boat, which took him to Ventura Harbor. The man’s sailboat, Cool Runnings, sank in 195 feet of water.
