Australian Navy Intercepts Asylum Seeker Boat
The 17th asylum seeker boat to arrive in Australian waters this year has been intercepted near Christmas Island off the coast of north-west Australia.
HMAS Wollongong (ACPB 92) A statement from Home Affairs Minister Brendan O'Connor said the boat was intercepted by HMAS Wollongong last night, 13 nautical miles away from Christmas Island. Fifty-seven people are on board the boat. They are now being taken to Christmas Island for health and security checks.
