The 17th asylum seeker boat to arrive in Australian waters this year has been intercepted near Christmas Island off the coast of north-west Australia.
HMAS Wollongong (ACPB 92)A statement from Home Affairs Minister Brendan O'Connor said the boat was intercepted by HMAS Wollongong last night, 13 nautical miles away from Christmas Island. Fifty-seven people are on board the boat. They are now being taken to Christmas Island for health and security checks.
