One person is reported overboard from a Nova Scotia-based tall ship in rough seas more than 800 kilometres off the coast of Massachusetts. A U.S. Coast Guard spokesman identified the vessel as the Picton Castle, based in Lunenburg, N.S. Matthew Brooks said details were still sketchy but a female is missing from the 55-metre sailing ship.
Picton CastleBrooks said the Picton Castle had been sailing south toward the Caribbean at the time of the mishap. The coast guard is in the process of getting rescue ships and aircraft out to the area. Officials at the Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Halifax were apparently also attempting to lend assistance, but were not immediately available for comment.
