Ship's Chief Officer Loses Fingers
The Chief Officer of the Iranian tanker Iran Susangird lost three fingers during crew change off the Grand Harbour at around 1740CEST. The Armed Forces of Malta dispatched a helicopter to the tanker and the injured seaman was transported to St Luke's Hospital. Iran Susangird Preliminary reports show that as the Chief Officer was being lowered onto the Maltese flagged utility vessel Maria-C from the tanker, the Personnel Basket which was holding the officer lost control with the consequence that it hit the ship's side. Further investigations are underway.
